“Sambung Selamet”, which means connecting safety, is an initiative program to re-echo Osing-Banyuwangi songs by M. Arif which have environmental wisdom and food security values. Some of them are the songs Lurkung, Nandur Jagung, Genjer-Genjer and Kembang Kopi which were suppressed, and refused to circulate due to political turmoil in 1965. Through collaboration with Abdul Radjat (Mbah Selamet Menur) these songs can be re-archived and revitalized so that they do not become obsolete. This initiative is expected to be able to open a space for reconciliation for the community’s subjectivity towards the image of songs that are often associated with Indonesian communist ideology, even though if viewed objectively again it does not contain a particular ideology at all. Thus, “Sambung Selamet” is expected to be a connector of awareness for the community on environmental issues and food security for the sake of life sustainability from time to time.
